Oral-B iO10 Review - The World’s Smartest Toothbrush (2025)
In Summary
The Oral B iO10 is one of the priciest toothbrushes you can buy and, if I am being completely honest, I do not think most people should rush out and spend their money on it. I paid just under £300 for mine and, for that price, the value simply is not there.
Yes, it will clean your teeth. Your mouth will feel fresh, the motor is powerful and it does what an electric toothbrush should do. The problem is everything around it. The build feels a bit flimsy, the AI features and app are clever but most people will stop using them within a week, and the travel case is surprisingly low quality.
What shocked me most was the charging situation. It is 2025 and yet you still cannot charge a £300 toothbrush with a simple USB cable. If you travel with it, you have to pack the unique charger it comes with, otherwise you are stuck.
That said, people are curious about the iO series and plenty of my own patients enjoy the user experience. So I have reviewed it to give you a clear, honest picture before you spend your money.

Design and Ergonomics
The Oral-B iO10 is one of the biggest electric brushes I have tested, and it feels quite chunky in the hand. The body is smooth plastic with no rubber grip, which looks smart but is not the most practical when your hands are wet.
It does stand securely on the charging stand thanks to the small magnet that keeps it upright. You get a colour display on the front that shows your brushing mode, with two simple buttons to control everything. It looks modern and quite tech-focused, although it is not as sleek as the Philips alternative.
The brush head is where I noticed something unusual. It is slightly bulky and hollow, which means you can feel air moving through it while you brush. This sometimes pushes toothpaste out of your mouth which I find a bit annoying.
My wife, who is also a dentist and uses this brush, is not bothered by it at all, but it is something worth knowing before you buy.
The indicator lights and the display are well integrated, and the brush has a built-in sensor that wakes the screen as soon as you pick it up. If your phone is nearby, it will also start connecting to the app automatically. It is a smooth bit of tech and feels quite polished in everyday use.
Hidden buttons and displays
The charging stand also has its own display and lighting, which gives you a clear countdown while you brush. It is surprisingly helpful and makes the whole routine feel a bit easier. The stand also shows your brushing pressure, so even if you are not standing in front of a mirror you can still see whether you are pressing too hard or brushing correctly. It is a very nice touch and one of the better features of the iO10.
The only drawback is that the stand has to be plugged in at all times to work. There is no built-in battery, so you cannot use the countdown or pressure feedback unless it is connected to the mains.
Cleaning Performance
As I mention in all my toothbrush reviews, any modern electric toothbrush will be effective enough to maintain good oral health when used correctly.
The iO range uses an oscillating brushing action, which is a well-researched and proven method for removing plaque effectively. When used properly it cleans to a standard that helps prevent both tooth decay and gum disease. After each use your mouth does feel very clean.
There are several cleaning modes available and you can adjust the intensity using the buttons on the display. This gives you a bit of flexibility, especially if you prefer a gentler feel on sensitive days or a stronger clean when you want something more thorough.
It’s worth noting that there’s no scientific evidence to prove that one electric toothbrush cleans better than another. What we do know is that electric brushes as a whole are far more effective than manual ones.
Key Features
The Oral-B iO10 is loaded with high-tech features designed to improve your brushing technique and make day-to-day oral care simpler.
Oscillating micro vibrations – Combines the classic round Oral B head with micro vibration technology for a polished, thorough clean.
Multiple cleaning modes – Includes Daily Clean, Sensitive, Super Sensitive, Intense, Gum Care, Whitening, and Tongue Clean. In reality, most people stick to Daily Clean, but the options are there if you like to customise your routine.
Live countdown on the charging base – The Smart Pressure Dock gives you a visible two minute timer and zone guide while you brush, even if you are not looking in a mirror.
Pressure sensor – Lights change between red, green, and white to tell you when you are brushing too hard, brushing correctly, or brushing too lightly.
AI brushing tracking – Uses sensors and the app to map which areas you have brushed and which spots you have missed.
Bluetooth-connected app – Tracks your brushing habits over time, gives coaching tips, and helps you work on consistency.
Instant display activation – The built-in sensor wakes the screen the moment you pick the brush up and starts the Bluetooth connection automatically if your phone is nearby.
Brush head replacement reminder – Alerts you when it is time to change the head to maintain performance.
Magnetic drive system – Allows smoother, quieter brushing compared to older Oral-B models.
Smart charging stand – Charges the brush, provides real-time feedback, and displays pressure and timing data while you brush.

Smart Adapt Feature
The packaging claims that the brush monitors your brushing style and adjusts the cleaning intensity over time, but it is not very clear about what this actually means. I have not found any detailed information from Oral B explaining whether it changes speed, pressure, or the strength of the micro vibrations. It sounds good in theory, but without proper clarification it is hard to understand exactly what the feature is doing or how much difference it makes in real use.
Together, these features make the Oral-B Io10 one of the most intelligent electric toothbrushes available.
Oral-B App
The iO10 works alongside the Oral B App, which gives you real time feedback and long term tracking to help you improve your brushing technique.
Once everything is set up, the brush and the app work together smoothly, but I did find the initial connection a bit of a hassle. After that first pairing, though, it connects almost instantly whenever you pick the brush up and have the app open.
The app shows which areas you have brushed well and which zones you have missed, and it also gives feedback on brushing pressure and timing. If you do not have your phone nearby for every session, the brush can store several brushing sessions in its memory and will update the app the next time you connect it. This means you still get a complete brushing history even if you do not use the app every day.
It also links with Apple Health, so your brushing habits can be recorded alongside your other health data. For people who like tracking their routines, it is a nice little addition.
The app itself is well designed, and if you enjoy tech or want to improve your brushing technique, it does make the routine feel more structured.
Travel-Friendly Features
This is one of the weakest areas of the iO10, especially considering the price. The battery life is not great for an Oral-B brush. The company does not clearly state how long it should last, but from our use, it manages roughly a couple of weeks at most. It is fine for a short trip, but not much more.
You do get a travel case, although it is not the most secure design. Once the handle and brush head are inside they sit quite loosely and you can hear them rattling around when you move the case. For a premium brush it feels a bit disappointing.
The biggest drawback is charging while travelling. Both the charging stand and the travel case rely on a unique cable and plug. Most modern toothbrushes allow you to charge through USB-C which makes life much easier. With the iO10, you need to pack the dedicated cable every time you travel for more than a week, which feels outdated and inconvenient at this price point in 2025.
Sustainability
If sustainability is a key factor for you, the Oral‑B iO10 presents a mixed picture. On one hand, the parent company Procter & Gamble (P&G) has some clear and ambitious commitments: for example, the company aims to:
Reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 50% across its operations by 2030
Purchase 100% renewable electricity globally
Maintain zero manufacturing waste to landfill in its oral-care production facilities
100% of its packaging will be recyclable or reusable by 2030.
In terms of more tangible, product-level action, Oral-B offers the “Recycle On Us” programme where you can send back used toothbrush heads, manual brushes and other oral care parts for recycling.
If your priority is the most sustainable electric toothbrush possible, with full transparency, modular repairability and fully closed-loop recycling of the handle and battery, then there are still better options out there.
Price / Money-back Guarentee
The RRP of the iO10 sits at around £820, although you can ignore that figure because it is almost never sold at full price.
Most retailers list it for roughly £400, and during sales, you can often find it for about £280.
As we mentioned at the outset, this is still excessive in terms of the value you receive. The brush is packed with features, but the overall package does not justify the premium in our view.
That said, if you want the most feature heavy electric toothbrush on the market and you enjoy the Oral B style of brushing and user experience, then the iO10 may appeal to you. It is the top of the range model in their line up.
Below is a chart from our Amazon price checker, which shows the usual price range for this brush. If you are thinking of buying it, we would suggest waiting for Black Friday because that is when the biggest discounts appear.
If you find it for under £300, that is the point where it starts to become a reasonable purchase.
You also get a 30-day money-back guarantee, which means you can try the brush and return it if you are not happy with it. It takes away a bit of the risk, especially if you are unsure whether you will like the Oral B brushing style or the app experience.
Final Thoughts
So are we the biggest fans of this brush? Not really, and the main reason is the price. It comes with plenty of advanced features and the smart tracking, app integration and charging stand display are all genuinely impressive.
The problem is that once you are in the habit of brushing properly, you do not actually need most of these extras. There are far cheaper brushes that offer a similar level of cleaning performance and enough smart features to guide good technique.
Between the iO10 and the Philips Prestige 9900, we prefer the Philips. It feels more premium, the build quality is better and the charging system is much more practical for everyday use and travel.
That said, if you already use an Oral B brush, prefer the round head and want the most feature packed model they offer, the iO10 is the most advanced toothbrush we have tested.
The cost will be the deciding factor for most people, but if that does not put you off, it delivers everything the brand is capable of.
