Bonding, composite bonding, composite veneers, edge bonding - all mean the same thing.

The process involves changing the shape and/or colour of your teeth by adding a tooth coloured resin to the teeth. It’s becoming hugely popular in recent times because it is affordable and minimally destructive to your teeth. Composite bonding can also be done in one appointment with no injections or anaesthetic.

The composite material can either be applied to just the edges of your teeth to change their shape, or they can be applied to the whole surface of your teeth essentially making them a ‘veneer.

Things to know about composite bonding

  • The composite material can look great but it will discolour after a period of time. You will usually need to replace it every 5-7 years if you want it to look glossy like natural teeth

  • Once it is on, you can’t go back to your natural teeth again

  • The result of composite bonding is highly dependant on the skill of the dentist that is doing them, unlike porcelain veneers which are made by a dental lab technician
