Laifen Wave Pro Review: A Dentist's Thoughts (2026)

A genuinely innovative electric toothbrush that actually does something different

Quick Verdict

The Laifen Wave Pro is one of the most interesting electric toothbrushes we’ve tested. It’s powerful, well-built, and genuinely brings something new to the table with its hybrid brushing motion. It won’t be for everyone, but if you like premium gadgets and want something different from the usual Oral-B or Sonicare, this is a very strong option.

We highly recommend this toothbrush.

Pros and Cons image

What Makes the Laifen Wave Pro Different?

Most electric toothbrushes fall into two categories: sonic or oscillating.

The Laifen Wave Pro does both.

It combines high-frequency sonic vibrations with a 60° oscillating “swipe” motion, creating a brushing action that feels completely different from anything else on the market. At first, it feels unusual, but after a few uses, you start getting used to it.

The toothbrush also has some pretty impressive little features that clearly show the company has researched people's wishes really well. We list these in more detail later on becuase there are so many.

Pros

  • Great design, feels and looks great

  • Amazing battery life - 70 days on a single charge!

  • 2-minute timer

  • Pressure Sensor

  • Will clinically clean your teeth enough to prevent diseases and decay

  • Easy to clean and maintain

  • Several unique features that no other brushes on the market have

Cons

  • No direct USB-C charging

  • Non-charging travel case that comes apart

  • The heaviest toothbrush we’ve tried

  • Requires some time to get used to the movement

Cleaning Performance

The Laifen Wave Pro is very powerful. In fact, for some users, it may feel too powerful, especially in the higher settings.

  • Up to 66,000 vibrations per minute (higher than all other competitors)

  • Combined with mechanical oscillation to replicate the modified-bass technique

  • 6 settings split across daily clean and deep clean modes

Beyond the default presets, the app lets you fine-tune each setting with precision, offering over 1,000 possible variations in intensity and behaviour.

In practice, the cleaning performance is excellent. Plaque removal feels thorough and consistent, although we think it’s best to dial the power down slightly to find a comfortable long-term setting.

The concept behind the hybrid sonic and oscillating motion is interesting. It appears to be inspired by the modified Bass technique, which is one of the most well-researched methods for cleaning teeth effectively. However, that evidence is based on manual brushing.

In theory, Laifen’s system makes sense and aims to replicate or enhance that technique, but at the moment, there isn’t any strong clinical evidence to show that it provides a meaningful improvement over existing electric toothbrushes.

Design and Ergonomics

Laifen have clearly designed this brush more like a consumer tech product than a traditional dental device, and it shows. The Wave Pro feels closer to something you’d expect from Apple than from a typical oral care brand.

The handle is solid and weighty, which gives it an immediate premium feel in the hand. It’s noticeably heavier than something like a Sonicare or SURI.

The materials are a big part of what sets it apart. Depending on the model, you’ve got finishes like aluminium alloy, stainless steel, and transparent designs, all of which feel high quality and well put together. The transparent version in particular is quite striking and adds to that “tech product” feel.

The grip is comfortable, the shape sits naturally in the hand, and the brush feels balanced during use.

The earlier Laifen Wave model had a tendency to rattle aggressively against your teeth if you touched the back of the brush head, which this one does not.

It’s also relatively quiet considering how powerful it is, which makes it more pleasant to use day to day.

Unique Features

This is where Laifen is clearly trying to innovate:

  • Servo system for consistent performance - Laifen use a self-developed servo system that monitors the motor in real time and adjusts performance via a control chip. In simple terms, it’s designed to keep the brushing motion stable and consistent as resistance changes while you move around your mouth.

  • Bristle protection mode - After brushing, when you put the brush down on the counter, the head spins to move bristles away from surfaces like sinks

  • Spin-dry mode - When powered off, if you tilt the brush down into the sink, it powers on to help clean and dry the bristles.

  • Airplane mode - Locks the brush to prevent accidental activation while travelling

  • Automatic start - The brush automatically starts when pressed against your teeth

  • 3-second power up - The brushing starts slowly to prevent water splashing everywhere before you place the brush on your teeth properly

  • Firmware updates - Rare to see in a toothbrush, but interesting for future improvements

  • Indicator bristles on the brush head to tell you when to swap

Battery Life and Charging

Laifen claim up to 70 days on a single charge, which is far ahead of most premium brushes. You’re not thinking about charging it weekly like you would with many Oral-B or Sonicare models.

Where things fall slightly short is the charging setup.

The brush itself doesn’t support direct USB-C charging, which feels like a missed opportunity for a product that otherwise leans heavily into modern, tech-focused design. Instead, you have to use the supplied charging base, which connects via USB-C but uses a proprietary magnetic connection to the brush.

The base itself is actually well designed. It has a clean look, a suction-style bottom that keeps it stable, and a satisfying magnetic snap when you place the brush on it. At home, it works perfectly well if you have somewhere convenient to keep it.

The issue is mainly when travelling.

Because there’s no direct cable charging or charging case, you’ll need to bring the charging base and cable with you if you’re away for longer trips. Given how strong the battery life is, this won’t be a frequent problem, but it does reduce some of the convenience you’d expect from a premium brush.

Pricing

For the level of power, build quality and innovation on offer, it’s very competitively priced. In fact, it’s probably the best value for money toothbrush we’ve reviewed so far.

Pricing is straightforward depending on the finish:

  • ABS (plastic) – £89.99

  • Aluminium – £109.99

  • Stainless Steel – £129.99

  • Transparent – £129.99

Even at the higher end, this still comes in well below many “flagship” brushes from bigger brands, while offering something that genuinely feels more advanced and better built.

Replacement brush heads are also reasonably priced:

  • £26.99 for a pack of 6

That should comfortably last around 18 months for most people, which keeps the long-term cost of ownership relatively low.

At the moment, it’s only available in the UK via Amazon, which is worth noting if you prefer buying directly from brands or want in-store availability.

Things I Don't Like About It

No product is perfect, and there are a few areas where the Wave Pro falls short.

The app isn’t the most useful

There’s a huge amount of customisation available, but for most people it’s unnecessary. You can tweak multiple settings and modes, which might appeal to tech enthusiasts, but clinically, it doesn’t add much. For the average user, it just makes things feel more complicated than they need to be.

Charging could be more convenient

The charging base itself is well designed; however, the brush itself uses a proprietary connection, so you can’t just plug in a USB-C cable directly or via a simple travel case. Uncharged electric brushes are a big reason why people don’t use them!

The travel case is poor

This is probably the weakest part of the package. The case feels basic and doesn’t offer a charging port. There is no room in the case to place the charging cable, and the case comes apart into 2 pieces.

The highest power mode is excessive

The high-frequency setting feels unnecessary for most users. It’s extremely powerful and not particularly comfortable, especially if you have sensitive teeth or gums. Most people will be better off sticking to the lower or mid settings.

Easy to accidentally switch off

Depending on how you hold the brush, it’s quite easy to press the power button unintentionally while brushing. It’s a small annoyance, but it happens often enough to be noticeable.

Final Thoughts

The Laifen Wave Pro is the most innovative toothbrush we’ve reviewed so far.

It’s not just another sonic brush with slightly tweaked specs or vague “AI-powered” claims. It genuinely changes how brushing feels, in a way that’s noticeable, with several small but genuinely useful features that people will appreciate day to day.

That won’t appeal to everyone, but if you’re open to trying something different, it’s a very impressive product. At this price point, it represents excellent value.

From a clinical perspective, it does everything you need. The rest comes down to personal preference.
