The Best Philips Electric Toothbrushes 2025 (UK)

Medically reviewed by Dr Zaeem Jafri BDS on 4th December 2025

An electric toothbrush can definitely make a noticeable difference to your dental health - just ask your dentist next time you pop in - over a standard manual one, but your big problem is figuring out which one to get. There are hundreds of decent brushes out there, but it’s easy to get confused with costs, features and brands once you start digging into your research.

To make things a little simpler, I decided to boil down the best electric toothbrushes from one specific brand: Philips.

Among one of the best brush makers available right now (alongside Oral-B), Philips’ unique sonic technology takes a tough stance on plaque and loose food stuck in your teeth, but is gentle to your gumline, giving you professional results every time you brush.

Most of these products are available for quick delivery on Amazon. If you use our links to buy them, we may earn a little money, but be assured that this article contains our honest opinions.

Claiming to remove more than 20 times more plaque than a manual brush, Philips top-end Sonicare DiamondClean models offer unrivalled dental cleaning power, with features to help train you in the correct cleaning technique, as well as AI connectivity to unlock real-time brushing feedback for optimum routines.

Elsewhere, more affordable options have multiple cleaning modes to cater to sensitive gums or specific needs, or built-in pressure sensors and two-minute timers to keep you on track for the perfect brush.

Below, I’ve laid out each of the most relevant Philips Electric toothbrushes, as well as guidance on the merits and features of each in the range to help you find the best one for you.

Philips electric toothbrushes use sonic pulse technology to remove plaque, vibrating at 62 thousand motions per minute to shake off stains, plaque and debris from the entire tooth, providing a gentler approach to dental care than many alternatives on the market. Combining this with stretched, oval-shaped brush heads and angled bristles, Philips provides a lot of coverage along the gumline without forcing you to physically brush the handle up and down, which can irritate your gums.

At the peak of Philips’ range, you’ll find AI-advanced toothbrushes that can connect to your smartphone and transmit a life map of your mouth and the brush as you move it around, helping you tell which tooth you’ve been neglecting, or where you’ve been spending too much time buffering. It keeps the score of each tooth and lets you know when to move on or head back and do a better job, providing more info to you to optimise your brushing routine and reclaim a dazzling smile.

Alongside this models will boast multiple cleaning modes to help focus on sensitive gums or whitening your teeth, huge batteries to keep you brushing for multiple weeks between charges, and you can pick up replacement brush head subscriptions for simple and affordable rotations so the bristles can do all the good work to keep your teeth healthy and clean.

Perhaps the best electric toothbrush on the market and one of the best I’ve tested, the Sonicare DiamondClean Prestige is bursting with great features, from AI dental mapping to Philips’ unique SenseIQ tech, which uses multiple sensors within the brush head to track every motion of the brush, adjust the sensitivity of the pulses as you brush, and guides you to a healthier, brighter smile through the smartphone app.

It gave me that hygienist-clean feel from just a few weeks of use while using the standard Clean bruising mode. I love the charging station, which is a handsome glass disc that wirelessly transmits power between brushes,  and the included travel case. The only major downside is the price. While it’s often discounted well below the quoted RRP, even with a sizeable price drop, it’s still a lot of money.

It’s worth noting that the Prestige 9900 is identical in function to the standard Sonicare 9900, only that Philips offers a good-looking champagne colourway for the Prestige model

If the £500+ pricetag of the DiamondClean Prestige makes you feel queasy, the DiamondClean Smart offers similar levels of pro-grade cleaning and AI-assisted brushing, but for a lower cost, making it an excellent choice for anyone taking their dental care seriously.

Dental AI mapping will keep track of your brushing habits to nudge you into doing a more through job on those back teeth, with personalised guidance provided on the app to help you improve. Your phone will warn you if you’re pressing too hard, not getting full coverage of your teeth, or remind you to swap out for a new brush head every three months. Four cleaning modes are available here: Clean, White+, Deep Clean+ and Gum Health, though I mostly used the standard Clean mode for daily use. I also love the charging station, which is a rectangular shot glass that presents the brush on the sink-side, keeps it away from bacteria in the cupboard and wirelessly transmits battery to keep the brush ready and prepared to guide you.

The DiamondClean 9000 may not have the AI smartphone functionality of the more expensive models above, but most people don’t really need it, in my opinion, and I’d rather people be focussing on brushing their teeth properly than staring down at their phone. You can still connect to your smartphone to enjoy helpful tips, blogs and guidance from Philips’ professional hygienists and dentists, but you won’t be following along to live mapping.

You’ll still get Philips’ powerful sonic pulses that eliminate plaque and stains, but you’ll get four cleaning modes at three intensities, giving you flexibility in how you brush and what you specifically require, be that a more gentle clean for sore  gums, or a buffering clean to brighten and whiten.

The kids can also get in on the action with Philips’ dedicated Sonicare range for children. They are a great, fun way to engage children and to encourage them to have fun while brushing their teeth, with Bluetooth connectivity that syncs up to an educational app that provides games and interactive videos that get them brushing with proper technique. There are a range of fun designs and colours and just two modes, clean and sensitive, to contend with, keeping it as simple and engaging as possible.

I like to think of Philips’ Sonicare 5500 series as the adult edition of the kids brushes above. There’s little to distract you in terms of AI integration, but that’s perfectly fine, as you can still take advantage of the sonic pulses, pressure sensor and two-minute timer to get a quality clean. The handle is minimalist, with a power button, an LED light system to show you the battery life (up to three weeks worth), and two cleaning modes; clean and sensitive; to select from.

The Sonicare 7100 is, pound-for-pound, one of the best-value brushes from Philips, offering some top-tier tech like Bluetooth connectivity, personalised guidance, and high-performance sonic pulse cleaning, but sits at a more affordable price point in Philips roster. What sets it apart from the other models in the collection is the range of 12 cleaning modes and intensity settings to experiment with, unlocking the freedom to personalise your cleaning sessions. The brush remembers your presets, so you can always get back to that perfect setting once you land on one, but otherwise, you can adjust and explore as you see fit.

Use the app to explore guided brushing sessions that coach you on correct form, and keep on top of replacement head rotations, with a reminder through the app.

Falling further down the price range, we arrive at Philips 6000 series, which offers smartphone connectivity, guided brushing and Philips’ superb sonic pulse technology, but here you just have fewer cleaning modes and intensities (9 overall) and a slightly less cluttered handle. Buy this brush at the right time and you can easily pay less than £70, which is great value. With three weeks of battery, a useful carry case, and replacement head reminders every three months, you’ll improve your cleaning routine in just a few short weeks.

The Philips Sonicare 4100 is a great entry point to electric toothbrushes for anyone making the jump from a manual brush, but get intimated by all the AI tech available in more expensive models. The 4100 is stripped back to the basics, with the impressive sonic pulse cleaning technology, a pressure sensor that gives haptic feedback when you’re pushing too hard, two cleaning modes, and a two-week battery. It’s all the basic features that will actually help improve your brushing technique, but with none of the bloated tech features that can ramp up the price.

Lastly, the Series 1100 is Philips’ most basic, most affordable and most accessible brush, and a great entry-point into the world of electric toothbrushes. The handle isn’t as powerful (though still pulses at 31,000 motions per minute) and doesn’t feature any AI Bluetooth smarts, multiple brushing modes or special features outside the timer and pressure sensor. For me, so long as you’ve got an electric toothbrush and you use it properly, you are taking a big step in the right direction to better dental health, so this is perfect for anyone on a budget.

FAQs

Why should I buy a Philips electric toothbrush?

Philips is almost like an antithesis to Oral-B’s oscillating brush heads, in that it uses thousands of micro-pulse motions that vibrate the brush head to lift off plaque. This method is great for sensitive gums as there’s no need to physically “brush” the teeth along the gum. Simply hold the brush against each tooth for a few seconds and let the inwards-facing bristles do all the hard work.

The overall build quality, ergonomic design, and features on offer, like multiple cleaning modes, AI Bluetooth connectivity and wireless charging capabilities make them an excellent choice.

What’s the best Philips electric toothbrush?

The best electric toothbrush in Philips’ range is going to be down to your individual circumstances, both with how much money you’ve got to spend, and what you want your brush to do.

Arguably the best overall toothbrush is the Sonicare DiamondClean Presitige, a powerhouse brush that boasts AI smarts to map out each tooth in your mouth, beam it to your smartphone and guide you to a more efficient clean. However, it’s incredibly expensive, and not right for everyone - I’d hate to recommend you stand at the sink staring at your smartphone every morning and evening instead of actually focusing on cleaning your teeth.

If budget is more of a focus, or even if you’d rather have a brush that doesn’t have a lot of tech to overcomplicate your routine, the Philips 4100 Series offers great cleaning with its sonic pulses, but only has two cleaning modes and no AI functionality, removing a lot of the technical stuff that can be a bit complicated for many users.
