When shopping for an electric toothbrush, it's easy to get distracted by the latest premium models packed with artificial intelligence, colour displays and dozens of brushing modes. Yet some older models continue to hold their ground thanks to reliable performance, sensible pricing and straightforward functionality.
The Oral-B Pro 3 sits firmly in that category, and while it’ss not the newest electric toothbrush on the market, nor is it the most advanced, spending time with it and exploring its uses gave me a new appreciation for older devices that still do a stand-up job.
For many people, brushing your teeth shouldn't require a companion app, coaching system or a dashboard full of statistics. Sometimes you just want a toothbrush that cleans effectively, protects your gums and doesn't cost a fortune. So, is the Oral-B Pro 3 still worth considering in 2026? Let's take a closer look.

Oral-B has released a number of new devices since the Pro 3 became available in 2021, but it still stands the test of time with relevant and useful features that actually clean your teeth properly. It’s a no-nonsense device that ignores the shiny new AI tech found in many top-end brushes in favour of a hard-graft set of bristles and cleaning tools to give you a clean and beaming smile every time you use it.
In Summary
I always appreciate a toothbrush that works hard to be affordable and genuinely useful in at-home dental care, so I found a kindred spirit with the Oral-B Pro 3. It’s lightweight, adept and ready to tackle all dental issues with a plucky attitude. Sure it’s still reasonably pricey, but that’s perfectly fine by me when it does so well at cleaning my teeth. It also does a remarkably good job at whitening teeth with its 3D cleaning tech that blasts plaque away and combines well with tooth-whitening pastes.

We tested the Oral-B Pro 3 over 3 weeks, brushing twice daily with a standard Colgate cleaning toothpaste.

Oral-B has barely changed the design language of its mid range toothbrushes for years, which is fine because it works, but it does look a tad bland to me.
The handle feels sturdy and comfortable in the hand, and it features a rubberised grip that helps prevent slipping, even when wet. The body is slightly chunky compared with some newer sonic toothbrushes, but it remains easy to manoeuvre around the mouth. I don’t like the little plastic rings around the neck, but otherwise it’s a handsome looking device.
I remember upgrading from a manual toothbrush to my first Oral-B model several years ago. The rounded brush head felt unusual for the first few days, but after a week it became second nature. The Pro 3 delivers that same familiar experience.
The toothbrush is available in several colour options, giving it a slightly more modern appearance than older models in the range.
While it lacks a display screen or premium finishes found on flagship brushes, the design remains practical and comfortable.
Cleaning Performance
The brush uses Oral-B's oscillating rotating technology, which remains one of the brand's biggest strengths, but the 3D tech means toothpaste is blasted around your mouth in a 360-degree spray, helping to get more coverage as you clean. The small round brush head surrounds each tooth individually, helping remove plaque from difficult areas that can sometimes be missed with manual brushing.
During testing, teeth felt noticeably smoother after brushing, particularly around the gumline and behind the molars.
The built in pressure sensor also contributes to better cleaning habits. Many people brush far harder than they realise. I certainly did. When I first started using a pressure sensor equipped toothbrush, I was surprised by how often I triggered the warning light.
The Pro 3 encourages a gentler technique while still delivering an impressively thorough clean. Compared with manual brushing, the difference is immediately noticeable.

If you share a bathroom with someone who sleeps nearby, they'll probably hear it. However, the noise level is similar to most Oral B brushes in this category. After a few uses, it becomes background noise rather than a genuine annoyance.
Travel-Friendly Features
The Oral-B Pro 3 is reasonably travel friendly, although it is not specifically designed for frequent travellers. The compact charging stand is easy enough to pack, and the handle itself isn't particularly bulky.
However, some packages do not include a travel case, which feels like a missed opportunity.
I recently packed one for a long weekend away and found it slipped comfortably into a wash bag once I removed the head. The battery life also meant I didn't need to bring the charger.
For occasional trips, it performs perfectly well. For frequent international travellers, there may be better options available.
Battery Life
Battery life is one area where newer electric toothbrushes have raised expectations, and the Oral-B is fine in this department but I’d love to see a bit more from it. You get about two weeks worth on a single charge depending on how much you use it, which is fine for most people, but can be a little annoying over trips or if you’re not great at remembering to recharge.
Charging is handled through Oral-B's traditional charging puck system. While reliable, charging speed is slower than some modern alternatives.
That said, once fully charged, the battery comfortably lasts through holidays and business trips. Unless you're travelling for several weeks at a time, battery anxiety is unlikely to be a concern.

There are no complicated menus, confusing displays or endless customisation options, just a power button and the button to cycle through the cleaning modes. And in all honesty, you’ll likely just stick to one mode once you’ve found one that feels right.

App Experience

For some users, this will be disappointing. Personally, I didn't miss it.
Many people enthusiastically use toothbrush apps for a week before forgetting they exist. Unless you're highly motivated by brushing data, the absence of app connectivity isn't necessarily a drawback. In fact, it helps keep the toothbrush affordable and easier to use.

It sits comfortably within the mid range category, often available at significant discounts throughout the year. Considering the cleaning performance on offer, it represents excellent value for money.
Many premium electric toothbrushes cost two or three times as much while delivering only marginal improvements in daily use.
If your primary goal is healthier teeth and gums rather than advanced technology, the Pro 3 offers a compelling balance between cost and performance.
