Oral-B’s electric toothbrushes use oscillating heads that rotate on a tiny pin, twisting the bristles around the tooth and along the gumline, providing a complete clean and swiping away stuck food and plaque between the teeth. Oral-B’s electric brushes are the most commonly used when dentists have conducted studies testing the efficacy of electric toothbrushes over manual ones.

Each brush also has Oral-B’s huge battery packed inside, with enough juice to give you at least a month’s worth of twice-daily cleaning between charges. I love Oral-B’s range for those with sensitive teeth, as many models have multiple cleaning modes that cater to those with sore gums, or more vigorous modes if you want to get a deep clean.

All models have a pressure sensor which teaches you how hard to press on your teeth while cleaning, and come with a travel case and changing cable to keep the battery topped up between brushes.

Oral-B product ranges

As mentioned, there’s a lot of different toothbrushes Oral-B makes, which can make it hard to judge which will be best for you. Thankfully, Oral-B has split its products into 5 ranges based on the most important features of each brush.

IO Series

The pinnacle of Oral-B’s roster, the IO series is where you’ll find the most advanced brushes that feature smart AI functionality to your phone. Download the Oral-B app and connect it to your brush via Bluetooth to get real-time AI mapping of your mouth and where the brush is, guiding you to a more efficient, complete clean that tracks your pressure, thoroughness and placement. They also have LED displays on the handle to show you how long you’ve been brushing, what cleaning mode you’re in, and also gives you a friendly good morning greeting.

Genius Series

Still boasting some top-end AI tech, the Genius range is equipped with Bluetooth connectivity to show you where your brush is in your mouth, but has a more streamlined handle that has little symbols that light up to denote which cleaning mode you’re in, instead of the LED display.

Pro Series

The Pro series is great for anyone who gets a bit overwhelmed with all the tech and just wants a quality electric toothbrush to level up their cleaning. There’s no AI mapping or LED display, but it still offers Oral-B’s oscillating 3D tech in the brush head to give each tooth a complete and thorough clean. It also has a dedicated “whitening” mode, which is specifically designed to buffer the tooth to remove stains and help you reclaim those pearly whites.

Smart Series

The Smart series is similar to the Pro range in that it’s reduced in all the tech you’ll find in the iO series and doesn’t have an LED display, but it focuses all its efforts in helping you brush more efficiently, with the oscillating bristles pulsating as well as rotating around each tooth for a deep clean.

Vitality Series

Finally, the Vitality range is the baseline set from Oral-B and is the most affordable overall. There are no fancy Ai features, LED displays or even much more on the handle than the power button, but you do get a pressure sensor and an automatic 2-minute timer to help you achieve a proper clean morning and night.

Oral-B iO10

Key Specs

2-min timer: Yes

Pressure sensor: Yes

Cleaning modes: 7 - Daily Clean, Sensitive, Whiten, Gum Care, Intense, Super Sensitive, Tongue Clean

Battery life: 1 month

Buy it from Amazon

The pinnacle of Oral-B’s toothbrush range, the Oral-B iO10 is the most expensive, the most feature-packed and, arguably, one of the best brushes on the market. Don’t let the extremely high RRP fool you, it’s normally sold for more than half that, though I recognise it’s still very expensive.

The iO10 has Bluetooth smart connectivity to your phone, transferring live data with a detailed map of your mouth. It tracks your movements around each tooth, denoting how hard you’ve pressed, which tooth you’ve neglected, and when you should move on to the next one. This is a great way to ensure proper cleaning technique and can also be motivational, as it gives you fun stickers, challenges and badges for consistency and good cleaning.

The LED display is there to show you which mode you’re currently on, how much battery is left and also to leave you a cute “good morning”/”good evening” message, just to put a smile on your face.

iO9

Key Specs

2-min timer: Yes

Pressure sensor: Yes

Cleaning modes: 7 - Daily Clean, Sensitive, Whiten, Gum Care, Intense, Super Sensitive, Tongue Clean

Battery life: 1 month

Buy it from Amazon

The iO9 is a considerable step down in price from the top-tier model, but still has all the AI features, including mouth tracking and smartphone compatibility, so a good choice for techy folk who don’t want to pay for the spennier model.

I love the seven cleaning modes available here, from a gentle, sensitive option to a more potent deep clean, giving you flexibility to adjust your routine as you like. The same battery, handle design and LED display is found on this model, and it also has the travel case so it’s great value for money.

Oral-B Genius X

Key Specs

2-min timer: Yes

Pressure sensor: Yes

Cleaning modes: 6 - Daily cleaning, Pro Clean, Sensitive, Whitening, Gum protection and Tongue cleaning

Battery life: 1 month

Buy it from Amazon

The Oral-B Genius X is an exceptional tool for anyone with sensitive gums, dental issues like sore wisdom teeth, or those who want top-end smarts but can’t get onboard with the expensive iO series. Made in collab with Braun, the Genius X adapts to your brushing style on the fly, reducing the oscillating motion of the brush if it senses you’re pressing too hard, and comes with a gum guard to halt sore, bleeding gums. Use this alongside the AI smart mapping to ensure you’re doing your dentist proud.

iO8

Key Specs

2-min timer: Yes

Pressure sensor: Yes

Cleaning modes: 6 - Daily Clean, Sensitive, Whiten, Gum Care, Intense, Super Sensitive,

Battery life: 1 month

Buy it from Amazon

Slip a little further down the price range and you’ll find the iO8, which is one of my top recommendations, as it’s the happy middle ground between affordability and top-of-the-range features. Once again, you’ll find AI smarts, an LED display, a huge battery and a weighty, ergonomic handle, but only six cleaning modes (which are plenty, in case you’re wondering) and most retailers will provide two spare brush heads to get you started.

This is easily the best value for money in Oral-B’s range, without being a burden on your budget.

iO7

Key Specs

2-min timer: Yes

Pressure sensor: Yes

Cleaning modes: 5 - Daily Clean, Sensitive, Whiten, Gum Care, Super Sensitive,

Battery life: 1 month

Buy it from Amazon

Yet another brush in Oral-B’s roster to boast AI smarts, the iO7 is largely the same, once again, but this time, you’ll only be able to select from five cleaning modes. Again, you’re still getting the same excellent build quality and functionality, and honestly, you could pick any one of the iO7 through to the iO10 and get similar results, so pick the model that best suits your budget.

Smart 6

Key Specs

2-min timer: Yes

Pressure sensor: Yes

Cleaning modes: 5 - Daily Clean, Sensitive, Whiten, Gum Care, Super Sensitive

Battery life: 1 month

Buy it from Amazon

Need a brush with some of the advanced tech found in the iO series, but worried all that AI stuff is going to be too much? The Smart 6 sits in the middle ground of the top and low end of Oral-B’s range, with the functionality to connect to Oral-B’s app to give you real-time feedback on your brushing habits, but it’s more streamlined in design, with a sleek handle that doesn’t have any additional LED displays or complicated buttons, other than the on switch.

Five cleaning modes give you the freedom to customise your clean each day depending on your needs, and you can use the handy pressure sensor to protect your gumline.

iO5

Key Specs

2-min timer: Yes

Pressure sensor: Yes

Cleaning modes: 5 - Daily Clean, Sensitive, Whiten, Gum Care, Super Sensitive

Battery life: 1 month

Buy it from Amazon

The iO5 is the first brush that really steps below £100 across most retailers. Five cleaning modes are available here, including Daily Clean, Intense Clean, Sensitive, Super-Sensitive, Whitening, which is more than enough to be getting on with for the average person.

You lose the LED display which greets you every morning, and in its place, you get a little light-up symbol which shows you the mode you’re currently using (you can switch between them using the button right by the power switch).

Pro 3

Key Specs

2-min timer: Yes

Pressure sensor: Yes

Cleaning modes: 3 - Daily Clean, Sensitive, Gum Care

Battery life: 1 month

Sometimes, simplicity is the best way to get the best results. Oral-B’s Pro 3 offers pro-grade cleaning without much of the complicated tech you’ll find in more expensive models. It’s stripped right back to the basics, with a two-minute timer that keeps you on track for your allotted cleaning time and also buzzes every 30 seconds to remind you to move onto the next quarter of your mouth. The pressure sensor light around the neck of the brush shows you when you’re pressing too hard, and the battery will give you more than two weeks of cleaning before needing a recharge.

iO3

Key Specs

2-min timer: Yes

Pressure sensor: Yes

Cleaning modes: 3 - Daily Clean, Sensitive, Whiten

Battery life: 2 weeks

Buy it from Amazon

At last, an Oral-B toothbrush that doesn’t boast AI smarts. The inclusion of Bluetooth tech in the more expensive models is only useful if you use it, so if you’d like something a bit more low-tech but still capable of getting the job done, the iO3 is the best all-round option, in my opinion. Stripped right down to the basics, there’s no LED display, smartphone tracking and only three cleaning modes, but that’s honestly plenty if you clean for two minutes twice a day consistently.

Vitality Pro

Key Specs

2-min timer: Yes

Pressure sensor: Yes

Cleaning modes: 3 - Daily Clean, Sensitive, Super Sensitive,

Battery life: 2 weeks

Buy it from Amazon

The Vitality Pro is the first non iO model brush on my list, but it’s still a worthy contender for your consideration if you’re hoping to save money on a quality electric toothbrush. It’s particularly good for those who suffer from sore, sensitive gums, as its sensitive + cleaning mode gently removes plaque without irritating the gumline. At less than £50, it’s the cheapest model, but still provides great value, with a pressure sensor, a decent two-week battery and a replacement brush head included in the cost.

Vitality Pro Kids

Kids should also be using an electric toothbrush as part of their dental routine, and luckily, Oral-B has plenty of models available for children aged 3+ and 6+. They come in a vast range of fun designs, including Spider-Man, Frozen’s Elsa or the Lion King, theming the colours to give kids something to enjoy and play with as they brush. Two cleaning modes are available, both an everyday cleaner and a sensitive mode to help teach children the proper techniques for healthy teeth as they grow.

FAQs

Why should I buy an Oral-B toothbrush

Oral-B are one of the best-known electric toothbrush brands and most dentists will recommend you pick one up if you’re upgrading from a manual toothbrush to an electric one. The brand has a huge roster of models that appeal to all price ranges and needs, and have some of the best brushes available on the market.

The oscillating tooth brush heads surround each tooth with bristles, twisting them around at high-speed to sweep away plaque and stuck foods from all around the tooth and along the gumline, giving you a smooth, stress-free clean. Alongside this, they typically have great battery-lives and overall build-quality and there are often affordable brush replacement head subscriptions so you never run out of new bristles.

What’s the best Oral-B Toothbrush

This is largely down to your budget, as there’s a broad range of options at each price point. The overall best option is the iO10 with its eight cleaning modes, huge battery and AI mouth-mapping capabilities, but it’s prohibitively expensive for many people. Something like the iO5 is a good all-rounder, as it’s affordably priced, well-stocked with top-end features and also has the AI Bluetooth smart tracking, giving you the option to play around with more advanced features to improve your brushing technique.

Are Oral-B toothbrushes often discounted?

Electric toothbrushes can be expensive, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for major sales online to keep the costs low. Shopping on the likes of Amazon, Currys or Boots will open up discounts throughout the year, but particularly around Black Friday and the Christmas sales, where you can often find more than 50% off.
