Oral B Smart 6: A Best Selling Brush That's Still Great at This Price Point (2026)
Not all electric toothbrushes are made equal - thanks capitalism. If you’re in the market for something better than you’re currently using, there’s a lot of options to sift through, from super-advanced AI integrated options from Oral-B and Philips, to eco-friendly simple brushes from the likes of Suri.
A simple way to cut through the noise is to go for the one that most people have bought, enjoy using and still use regularly. That would be the Oral-B Smart 6. I tested it over three weeks recently to see how it holds up, and if it’s still worthy of being called one of the best-selling electric brushes in the UK. Read my full thoughts below.

Oral-B Smart 6
Oral-B’s Smart 6 - or the 6000N to give it its proper, technical name - is reasonably outdated these days. Releasing in 2020, it’s a bit long in the tooth, but has quickly become one of the most popular options, earning its title as one of Amazon’s “Best Sellers”. Its combination of affordability, decent features, simple usability and oscillating brush heads makes it a ready-made device for keeping your teeth as clean as possible. Sure, there are more advanced options with better features. And sure, it’s still over £100, but it’s got that perfect blend of genuine capability and decent price to hit the sweet spot for most people.
In Summary
I tend to steer away from super-advanced, high-tech, high price toothbrushes, so the Smart 6 hits the right notes for me on price, features and genuine usefulness. It’s about as basic as you can get, and looks a bit utilitarian, but who’s buying a brush for the aesthetics? if you want clean teeth, this will get the job done.

How We Tested The Oral-B Smart 6
We tested the Oral-B Smart 6 over 3 weeks, brushing twice daily with a standard Colgate cleaning toothpaste.
We assessed:
Plaque removal
Gum comfort
Battery life
Noise levels
Ease of use
App usefulness
Design and Ergonomics
The Oral B Smart 6 follows the familiar design language that Oral-B has used for years - if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it - though there are some differences to the brand’s iO range that are worth noting. It features a rounded brush head, a rubberised grip and a sturdy handle that feels substantial without being overly bulky.
While it may not look as sleek as some newer premium models, there is something reassuring about its practical design. The grip remains secure even with wet hands and the buttons are easy to locate during brushing. It feels like the sort of brush a dentist would use. There aren’t any frills or unecessary additions; just sturdy, capable design.
One thing I noticed during testing was how comfortable the handle felt over longer brushing sessions. Some ultra slim toothbrushes can feel slightly awkward to hold, particularly if you have larger hands. The Smart 6 strikes a nice balance between comfort and control.
The LED pressure sensor ring positioned near the neck of the brush is also easy to see while brushing, helping users avoid excessive force.
Cleaning Performance
Cleaning performance is where the Smart 6 continues to impress. Like many Oral-B brushes, it uses oscillating and rotating technology rather than the sonic vibrations found on competing models. The round brush head surrounds each tooth individually, helping remove plaque from hard to reach areas.
It doesn’t use the magnetic tech found in some spennier Oral-B options (which swirls the water around your teeth for an even more rigorous clean) but this level of cleaning power is more than enough for most people with the right technique and consistency.
After a week of use, my teeth felt smooth and polished, particularly around the gumline and behind the lower front teeth where plaque tends to build up.
The brush produces that freshly cleaned sensation many people associate with a professional dental hygienist appointment. While no toothbrush can replace regular dental care, the Smart 6 certainly helps maintain a cleaner mouth between visits.
For users upgrading from a manual toothbrush, the difference can be especially noticeable.
Key Features
The Oral-B Smart 6 includes a strong range of features considering its current price point.
Highlights include:
Five cleaning modes
Visible pressure sensor
Bluetooth connectivity
Built in timer
Rechargeable battery
Position detection support with compatible smartphones
Multiple brush head compatibility
The two minute timer encourages adherence to dentist recommended brushing times, while the pressure sensor helps prevent aggressive brushing that can damage gums and enamel.
These are the sort of features that genuinely contribute to better brushing habits rather than simply adding marketing appeal, and I’m glad to see them here.
Gum Comfort
Many people focus exclusively on plaque removal when choosing a toothbrush, but gum comfort deserves equal attention, and luckily, the Smart 6 performs exceptionally well in this area.
The pressure sensor illuminates when you brush too hard and automatically reduces brushing intensity, creating a gentler experience while still maintaining cleaning effectiveness. I have a track record of pressing too hard, but it was hard to ignore the flashing warnings from this brush while I cleaned.
The Sensitive cleaning mode is particularly useful for anyone dealing with tender gums, recovering from dental work or simply looking for a gentler brushing experience. I will say that the brushing modes are largely the same, and there’s not really much noticeable difference between them, though.
Noise Level
Electric toothbrushes are rarely silent, but the Smart 6 remains reasonably controlled in terms of noise.
It produces the characteristic Oral-B mechanical sound that isn’t whisper quiet, but it’s far from disruptive.
Compared with some higher powered models, the noise level feels moderate and consistent.
In practical terms, it is unlikely to wake other household members if you brush early in the morning or late at night - it might just bug you when you use it.
Travel-Friendly Features
Frequent travellers often overlook the importance of a toothbrush's portability until they need to pack one. However, I can say the Smart 6 is a decent companion when travelling.
Its compact charging base takes up minimal space and many versions include a travel case for protection during transport.
I recently packed the Smart 6 for a weekend city break and appreciated how little room it occupied in my wash bag. The secure case also prevented the brush head from coming into contact with other items or turning on accidentally while you’re moving and wasting the battery.
The only minor drawback is that the handle is slightly heavier than some modern travel focused alternatives. However, the difference is unlikely to concern most users, and if it’s the difference between your luggage being accepted on your flight or not, you may have overpacked anyway.
Battery Life
Battery performance is middling here, I found, though I suppose two weeks of charge is about the going rate for these kinds of brushes. This means most people can comfortably take it on holiday without carrying the charger.
Battery anxiety is something many electric toothbrush users experience - few things are more frustrating than a toothbrush running flat halfway through a trip. Fortunately, the Smart 6 offers has a good runtime for most trips, and shouldn’t be troubling you if you plan ahead and charge before you leave.
Ease of Use
Not everyone wants a toothbrush packed with complicated technology. I for one, don’t really like super-techy brushes that distract you from the real cleaning at hand. One reason the Smart 6 continues to sell well is because it remains remarkably straightforward to operate.
The controls are simple and intuitive. Press the power button to start brushing and use the mode selector to switch between cleaning programmes. There’s very little learning curve involved.
Even users who’ve never owned an electric toothbrush before should feel comfortable within minutes.
The built in timer provides subtle reminders every 30 seconds, helping users evenly distribute brushing across all areas of the mouth. The neck is reasonably long to help you angle the brush head deep into your mouth without difficulty, and the overall design is so simple, you’re not left frustrated at the controls.
App Experience
The Smart 6 supports Bluetooth connectivity through the Oral B smartphone app.
For some users, this may seem unnecessary. For others, it can become a genuinely useful coaching tool.
The app provides brushing guidance, tracks session duration and offers feedback on brushing habits. It can also encourage consistency through reminders and progress tracking. It works like a personal coach, guiding you through better practice and helping you keep track of how you’re improving.
When I first connected the app, I expected to use it once and forget about it. Surprisingly, I found myself checking the brushing statistics more often than anticipated.
That said, the Smart 6 works perfectly well without the app. Users who prefer a simple brushing experience can ignore the connectivity features entirely, which is the sort of flexibility I can admire.
Price
Price is arguably the biggest reason the Oral-B Smart 6 remains relevant.
As newer models continue to launch, retailers frequently discount the Smart 6, creating excellent value for buyers. This is especially true when you consider how expensive some of the most premium models can be. Oral-B’s iO10, for instance, retails well over £300 in most scenarios.
You often get premium features such as pressure sensing, multiple cleaning modes and Bluetooth connectivity for significantly less than flagship alternatives.
For shoppers who want advanced functionality without spending top tier money, the Smart 6 sits in a very appealing sweet spot.
It feels far more premium than its discounted pricing often suggests.
Who Should Buy This?
The Oral-B Smart 6 is particularly well suited to:
First time electric toothbrush users
People upgrading from entry level electric brushes
Adults concerned about gum health
Budget conscious shoppers seeking premium features
Travellers needing strong battery life
Users interested in brushing data and app tracking
It may be less suitable for buyers seeking the latest cutting edge technology or the most compact design available.
For most people, however, it strikes an excellent balance between performance and affordability.
Electric Toothbrush Alternatives
While the Smart 6 remains highly competitive, several alternatives deserve consideration.
The Oral-B Pro 3 is a strong option for users who want excellent cleaning performance without smart connectivity.
For fans of sonic brushing technology, Philips Sonicare models provide a different cleaning feel and often appeal to users who prefer gentler vibrations. I’d point you in the direction of the 6500 for a similar price and vibe.
Each option has strengths, but the Smart 6 continues to stand out because of its balance between features and value.
What Makes It Different?
The Smart 6 occupies a unique position in the market. Many budget brushes remove too many useful features, while premium models can become excessively expensive. This brush bridges that gap effectively.
It delivers advanced brushing guidance, pressure protection and app support without requiring the financial commitment associated with flagship devices.
That combination explains why it has remained popular for so long. Rather than chasing trends, it focuses on features that genuinely improve brushing habits.
Is It Worth The Price?
The Oral-B Smart 6 remains one of the strongest value electric toothbrushes available today.
It cleans exceptionally well, protects sensitive gums, offers helpful smart features and delivers reliable battery performance. Most importantly, it does all of this at a price that often undercuts newer premium models.
After spending time with the brush again, I was reminded that newer does not always mean better.
For many consumers, the Smart 6 hits the sweet spot between affordability and functionality. It provides everything most people need for excellent oral hygiene without charging for features they may never use.
That is a rare combination in today's crowded electric toothbrush market.
