I’ve reviewed dozens of electric toothbrushes in my time, and many of them begin to look a lot like many others. Ostensibly, as long as they brush my teeth properly, they are perfectly fine, but there are some none-negotiable features that I simply must have at any given time. A pressure sensor, a decent set of bristles and a long-lasting battery. Many obviously give you that, but it’s also about the price.
And while that’s roughly where the iO7 brush from Oral-B sits, it’s a sad state of affairs that the brand is slowly stepping away from its middle-of-the-road options in favour of other avenues; making the iO7 somewhat obsolete. Still, it’s worth reviewing, and if you can find this brush in a sale or heavily discounted, it’s still worth grabbing over spennier options if budget is your main concern.
The iO7 is still one of the best electric toothbrushes available today. The question is whether it offers enough long term value to justify its premium price when newer models are appearing so quickly.

Oral-B’s iO series is its premium set, with high-end features that often include AI integration and smartphone compatibility, which the iO7 includes, but it feels like the market is moving away from this brush and what it has to offer. With many brushes costing less with similar features, it’s a solid brush to pick up in a sale, or if your budget can’t quite reach the upper echelons of the iO8 and beyond.
In Summary
It’s a tough spot for electric toothbrushes to cut through the noise and stand out - especially in Oral-B’s iO range. So I fear for the longevity of the iO7. It’s a great brush, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not really stepping into the future, and there are rumours Oral-B will be moving away from it to push higher-end models. It still stands as one of the best options under £200, but that’s an awful lot of money.

We tested the Oral-B iO7 over 3 weeks, brushing twice daily with a standard Colgate cleaning toothpaste.

The matte finish gives it a soft touch texture that feels more expensive than older Oral-B brushes and an instant win for me. It also avoids that slippery plastic feel common with budget electric toothbrushes.
The handle is slim and balanced, which makes it comfortable during longer brushing sessions. It’s a hard thing to quantify but it “feels” premium, luxurious and expensive.
The interactive display is small but useful. It shows brushing modes, battery life, and even greets you with a smiley face after a successful clean. It sounds gimmicky at first, but it does add a little personality to the routine.
Still, newer brushes entering the market are becoming even more minimalist and compact. Compared with some recent releases, the iO7 already feels slightly bulkier than it once did.
Cleaning Performance

Plaque removal is excellent. After my first week using it, my teeth genuinely felt as though I had just left a hygienist appointment. The polished feeling lasted throughout the day, especially around the gumline where manual brushing often misses spots.
The round brush head is particularly effective around molars and tight spaces. Unlike larger sonic heads, it wraps around each tooth more precisely.
If you are switching from a manual toothbrush, the difference is dramatic. Even coming from another premium electric toothbrush, the iO7 still feels like a step up in cleaning quality.
